The original Rolex dive watch was the Submariner, first appearing in 1953, interestingly the same year as the Blancapin Fifty Fathoms. Several decades of improvements through engineering innovation have further refined this must have Swiss timepiece to perfection. Newer models (since 2008) have been certified to 300m (1220ft) water resistancy. In today’s market expect to pay between £6K and £9K depending on the specific model and it’s condition / provenance. The Submariner 16610 features a 40mm black dial with luminous hands and white gold circular hour markers. Everything is protected with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The Submariner is powered by a mechanical automatic movement with date indication (Calibre 3135). For accurate dive timing it also features a unidirectional black bezel.
